Ellen’s Success Story
After 25 years of control, shame and domination, I found my escape through the Gateway Center and Multnomah County. The collective support by a group of strangers allowed me to understand that I could both escape and protect my children. I could promise my sons that this new safety would be permanent, that they could trust me and the people working with us, because for the first time in all our lives we mattered and our voices had full standing. The Family Justice Center of Washington County will provide this same escape from physical and emotional danger for others like us at an all-in-one location. I know from my experience that to get out of a domestically dominated and violent situation one needs access to a physically safe location, financial grants, food, DHS access, housing, free legal guidance, and then access must continue with counseling and job support. I know this center is crucial for giving safety, healing and hope to those in the Washington County area who must remove themselves and their children from Domestic Violence.
